The Smells: Sour Gas Cake comes across sweet, citrusy, peppery, earthy, floral, and lightly funky, with a creamy dessert note underneath and enough herbal depth to keep the whole thing from turning into lemon frosting.
Let’s see what the numbers say.
Beta-caryophyllene leads at 1.98%, giving Sour Gas Cake a strong foundation of black pepper, dry wood, spice, and earthy depth. At nearly a third of the measured terpene profile, it’s doing most of the structural heavy lifting.
Limonene follows at 1.01%, bringing a substantial citrus layer through the middle. That fits nicely with the Lemon Cherry Gelato side and helps brighten the heavier GMO, cake, and earthy notes underneath. Alpha-humulene reaches 0.65%, reinforcing the dry wood, herbs, earth, and slightly bitter edge around the caryophyllene.
Then things get softer. Linalool lands at a very respectable 0.62%, which should add flowers, gentle sweetness, soft wood, and a smoother middle to what could otherwise be a pretty aggressive pepper-and-citrus profile. Linalool rarely runs the show, but it does a good job of keeping louder terpenes from throwing chairs at one another.
Myrcene sits at 0.52%, adding some deeper fruit, earth, herbs, and body. Fenchol at 0.23%, beta-pinene at 0.22%, alpha-terpineol at 0.16%, and alpha-pinene at 0.11% fill in the background with fresh herbs, pine, wood, soft floral notes, and a little clean green lift.
There are also small amounts of terpinolene and beta-ocimene at 0.03% each, plus camphene at 0.03% and caryophyllene oxide at 0.02%. Nothing dramatic individually, but profiles are mixtures, not a competition to see which molecule gets the biggest bar graph.
All in all, our lab rats report sweet citrus, creamy cake, warm pepper, earthy herbs, soft flowers, and a faint funky-gas edge. It has dessert genetics, but the chemistry underneath is more spice cabinet than bakery display.
The Tastes: The inhale starts sweet and citrusy, with lemon peel and soft creamy fruit coming through first. Limonene gives it that bright opening, while the Lemon Cherry Gelato and Cheese Cake side of the blend brings a sweeter dessert character underneath.
Mid-palate, the caryophyllene and humulene take over with warm pepper, dry wood, herbs, and earth. This is where the Sour GMO side starts making more sense. It gives the sweeter profile some darker, funkier structure instead of letting everything collapse into generic cake flavor.
Linalool and alpha-terpineol soften the edges with a faint floral creaminess, while myrcene gives the back end some deeper fruit and earth.
The exhale lands on citrus peel, pepper, creamy sweetness, dry herbs, and a mild earthy-gas note that lingers afterward. One lab rat described it as tasting “like somebody brought lemon cheesecake into a garage and then seasoned it with black pepper.”
The Feels: Sour Gas Cake is labeled indica, and the PhytoFact wheel leans heavily toward comfort and relaxation, with calm sitting behind them and smaller amounts of inspiration, energy, and focus.
The profile itself is fairly broad. Limonene gives it some brightness, while the caryophyllene, humulene, linalool, and myrcene create a heavier and more rounded foundation. Expect this one to lean comfortable and grounded rather than completely flattening, with enough citrus lift to keep it from becoming a one-way ticket to furniture.
With 84.92% cannabinoids and 6.17% terpenes, Sour Gas Cake has a strong overall chemical profile. THCA leads at 77.2%, with THC at 4.1%, CBCA at 1.4%, THCVA at a notable 1.3%, CBGA at 0.6%, CBDA at 0.2%, and CBG at 0.1%.
That 1.3% THCVA is worth pointing out. It is unusually visible compared with the trace amounts we normally see on our test results. I wouldn’t build an effect claim around it, because cannabis chemistry loves punishing anyone who gets too confident, but it does give Sour Gas Cake a little extra cannabinoid character beyond the usual THCA-and-everybody-else arrangement.
As always, your mileage may vary depending on dose, tolerance, and whether a peppery citrus indica makes you melt into the couch or simply decide the rest of today’s obligations were poorly conceived.
Overall, Sour Gas Cake by The Dope Depot is a sweet, citrusy, peppery indica with creamy cake, dry herbs, earth, flowers, and a little funky gas underneath.
Visually, it has a bright golden-yellow color with a glossy, terp-rich badder consistency. There is some soft crystalline texture through the center, but plenty of wet shine around it. It looks nicely homogenized and properly saucy without turning into soup, which is apparently the standard of civilization we have reached.
The biggest strength here is the balance. 6.17% total terpenes gives it plenty to work with, but no single aromatic direction completely hijacks the profile. Caryophyllene provides the peppery frame, limonene gives it brightness, humulene and myrcene build the lower end, and that 0.62% linalool smooths everything through the middle.
As with all high terpene extracts, keep the jar upright and be sure to give it a stir before you take a dab.
Rating: Our lab rats give Sour Gas Cake 8.2 pieces of cheese.
